Citing her own personal struggles to identify depression, award-winning author Rebecca Walker will discuss the history, stigmatization, representation, and support needed within the African American community and beyond to diagnose and treat individuals with mental illness.

On Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 10:30 am, Ms. Walker will give a talk that inspires and invites participants to explore the issues of mental illness within the African American/Black community at Torp Theatre at Central Connecticut State University. This talk is FREE (donations are very much welcomed; please see above) and OPEN to the public. Following her talk, Ms. Walker will sign a limited number of her books for purchase. Following speaking engagement at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), Ms. Walker continue the discussion at book salon at the Hartford Public Library’s Downtown location. This event is slated to occur between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm and is also FREE and OPEN to the public. For directions to the Library, please click here.
